Lightning Jets Blow Sky High. Scientists are startled to discover a new form of lightning -- gigantic plumes that shoot up from cloud tops nearly 60 miles into the upper atmosphere. Some compare the discovery to biologists finding a new body part, and wonder how they could have missed it.
