Fast Company: If He's So Smart...Steve Jobs, Apple, and the Limits of Innovation.
Good article describing Apple's failure to profit from its numerous innovations. Here's the best part:
Innovation: Getting it Right
- Not All Innovation Is Equal
Technical innovation will earn you lots of adoring fans (think Apple). Business-model innovation will earn you lots of money (think Dell).
- Innovate for Cash, Not Cachet
If your cool new thing doesn't generate enough money to cover costs and make a profit, it isn't innovation. It's art.
- Don't Hoard Your Goodies
Getting to market on time and at the right price is vital. If that means licensing your idea to an outside manufacturer or marketer, do it.
- Innovation Doesn't Generate Growth. Management Does
If you covet awards for creativity, go to Hollywood. Managers get rewarded for results, which come from customers.
- Attention Deficit Has No Place Here
Every innovation worth doing deserves your commitment. Don't leap from one new thing to another. If your creation doesn't appear important to you, it won't be important to anyone else.

Bryan Bell says...
I am happy to announce the first non-UserLand produced Manila theme to use modules, Papaver [M].
Modules were a technology, developed a couple years ago by Brent Simmons then of Userland, which gave Manila themes the ability to insert editable areas, and stand-in content, throughout the design. The theory being that people wanted to insert content in sidebars and footers without having to dive into the template and create their own "include message" macros. This feature was pioneered with the "New Default" theme, which remains one of the most popular themes despite its ugly appearence mainly due to its ease of use. New modules based themes were never created because Manila lacks of an easy to use interface for creating and exporting them.

The Niestat brothers [NYC] have highlighted something that I think a number of we Apple faithful have noticed lately, a move to a much more agressive approach to their sales/support.
The brothers have a story about their iPod here that we should all see. I am just about to buy one so this is VERY timely!!
Apple finally came up with a replacement programme but I think the point has been made.
