RMIT Closes CIRCIT Research Centre
One of our largest Univeristies and dual providers of Vocational and Higher Education has announced that the CIRCIT Centre will be closed on June 30th this year.
I have been involved with the CIRCIT Centre in one way or another since it opened in 1989.
This is very disappointing news.
Their contribution to the provision of quality research and the dissemination of knowledge relating to the development and implementation of socially valuable Information Communications Technologies will be sadly missed.
One cannot help but fear for the increasingly difficult environment that independent research finds itself in. The economies of scale that confront all of our educational institutions are an anathema to many types of highly valuable and necessary research.
Not *every* form of research is easily quantified in a business plan.
I have found the work of the CIRCIT Centre to be of the highest quality and consistently demonstrating the social value of their work.
